In the ‘Acquired’ podcast held in San Francisco last week, Zuckerberg talked about competition with other technology companies and the future of technology. He also discussed open and closed systems.
At the same time, he said that he was going to work in open-source. At the event, Zuckerberg said he wants to build an open-source platform in the next 10 to 15 years. He expressed his belief that it will further improve the technology industry.
Even now, Zuckerberg has already taken some important steps in this area. In 2023, Meta released an open-source AI model called ‘Llama 2’. Meta’s move was praised by the tech community.
But doing this is also considered risky. Because people with bad intentions can abuse the open-source model. However, Meta also made an AI model called Lama 3.1 available as open-source last July. Which was also praised by the technology community.
Zuckerberg also spoke about this by adding the example of the operating system.
“There are a lot of competitors in what we do,” he said of future operating systems, “will they be like Apple’s closed systems? Good things can be made in different ways. In the past, Windows has been a leader because of its open ecosystem.”
