Every Paost You Put On Facebook And Instagram, Including Photos And Videos, Is Trained By Meta AI Posting anything on social media has become a scary situation. Because the public posts you make are used to train the AI model.
AI tools have been integrated into Facebook and Instagram today. Which is named Meta AI. Meta has been mentioning for some time that user data will be used for training this AI tool. Recently, Meta has formally accepted this before the lawmakers.
Melinda Kaiba, Meta’s Global Privacy Director, acknowledged this. Only last week, this topic was also raised in the discussion with the Australian parliamentarians.
Where Green Party MP David Shuibridge asked if Meta had decided to scrape public posts from Instagram and Facebook since 2007 for AI model training or not. In response, Metaki Kaiba replied that it was right to do so.
According to Meta, data of users under 18 years of age and private posts over 18 years of age are not used for training. This means that if the user has changed his post to private, Meta will not use it for training.
However, making the previous posts ‘private’ now is useless. Because when and how much data Meta takes from which account is not public. Especially given the situation, if you decide to make your posts public, they are sure to be used to train AI models.
However, due to the laws of some countries, there is also a situation where the user’s post is protected. For example, users from the European Union are given the option to opt out of this process.
Brazil has banned Meta from training its AI models using data from Brazilian users.
Overall, we post on platforms like Facebook and Instagram. But we have no hand in how the content of those posts is used. Meta using our post for his training is an example of that.
