This is the second gold that Spain has won in men’s football at the Olympics. Earlier in 1992, Spain won the gold. In 1984, for the first time in football, France’s desire to win gold at home could not be fulfilled.
A 30-minute extra time was added after the scheduled 90-minute match ended in a 3-3 draw. While Kamelo made Spain’s lead 4-3 by scoring in the 100th minute, he secured Spain’s victory by scoring a personal second goal in extra time.
Before that, France took the lead at the beginning of the game but could not maintain it. Enzo Milot scored in the 11th minute to take the lead. But Fermin Lopez equalized for Spain in the 18th minute. Permin scored in the 25th minute to give Spain a 2-1 lead.
