90 Million People Bathed In 9 Days At Mahakumbh 450 Million Pilgrims Expected The Maha Kumbh Mela, which began in Prayagraj, India on December 11, is attracting 10 million pilgrims every day.
According to the Maha Kumbh Management Committee of the Uttar Pradesh government, 90 million pilgrims have reached Prayagraj in the nine days since the Maha Kumbh began.
The Kumbh Mela is held every 12 years at the confluence of the Ganges and Yamuna rivers in Prayagraj. Prayagraj is considered the confluence of three rivers, or Triveni, with the belief that the Yamuna River also merges with the Saraswati River.
It is believed that bathing here every 12 years destroys sins. It is believed that drops of nectar from the churning of the ocean in ancient times fell in Prayagraj. For this reason, crores of people come here to bathe during the Kumbh Mela.
This year’s Mahakumbh has also been portrayed as the Mahakumbh that will come in 144 years. For this reason, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs and the Uttar Pradesh government have expected 450 million pilgrims to come here this year. Of these, the Indian government expects 1.5 million foreign tourists to participate in the Mahakumbh. It is considered the largest religious fair in the world.
Brazil’s Rio Carnival, Saudi Arabia’s Hajj and Germany’s Oktoberfest are considered the most popular events. These fairs attract 70 million, 25 million and 72 million people respectively. However, the Indian government says that more than 450 million people will participate in the Maha Kumbh Mela.
The Maha Kumbh Mela is expected to contribute Rs 200 billion to the Indian economy. The economic growth of Uttar Pradesh is expected to increase by an additional 1 per cent due to the Maha Kumbh. Due to this fair, daily necessities worth Rs 173.10 billion will be sold and the hotel and travel sector is expected to generate business worth Rs 28 billion.
It is said that the Indian government has used ‘Artificial Intelligence’ (AI) to manage more than 10 million pilgrims daily. Indian media has mentioned that more than 40,000 security personnel have been deployed for security. The media has mentioned that it is surprising in itself to be able to manage such a large number of participants.
To manage this Kumbh Mela, India has developed an artificial city spread over 4,000 hectares. It is said that 150,000 tents have been set up for accommodation and sanitation and transportation have been strengthened.
The Times of India has reported that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to visit the Maha Kumbh Mela on February 5. Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to visit on January 27.
