Instagram Continues To Imitate TikTok Creates An App Like Capcut Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri has announced a video editing app called ‘Edits’. In a video posted on Threads on Sunday night, Mosseri revealed that the app is set to compete with Capcut.
Capcut is a video editing app run by ByteDance. The app was banned along with TikTok on January 19. ‘Edits’ is available for pre-order on the iOS App Store.
“A lot is going on right now, but it’s our job to provide the best tools for creators,” Mosseri said in a video posted on Instagram.
He further explained the app, saying, “Edits is more than just a video editing app; it’s a repository of creative tools. There’ll be a dedicated tab for inspiration, another tab for tracking early ideas, a high-quality camera, all the editing features you’d expect, and a feature to share drafts with friends and other creators. And if you decide to share your videos on Instagram, there’ll also be information about how those videos perform.”
Similarly, the Edits app dashboard will display analytics on follower and non-follower engagement, as well as metrics on how often users watch or skip specific videos. It will also include editing tools that allow for the use of green screens and video overlays, which are common features of TikTok videos.
Mosseri didn’t say much in his video. ByteDance’s apps have been running smoothly since he posted the video. The future of ByteDance’s various platforms in the US is still unclear.
Instagram had previously announced a feature that would allow users to upload reels of up to three minutes, copying TikTok. Similarly, it is preparing to introduce a photo grid feature like TikTok. Insta’s reel feature was completely influenced by TikTok. Edits will be available from March 13, 2025.
