TikTok Sparks Discussion On Social Media Usage Digital platform TikTok has launched a discussion among stakeholders on the safe use of social media. The group discussion on how to use social media like TikTok safely took place at the ‘Digital Safety Summit Nepal’ event organized in Kathmandu.
A group discussion was held between Gajendra Kumar Thakur, Joint Secretary and Spokesperson of the Ministry of Information Technology, Santosh Sigdel, Executive Director of Digital Rights Nepal, Zara Basharat Higgs, Head of Public Policy Programs and Partnerships at TikTok, and Sorbs Ghimire, TikTok creator.
During the discussion, speaker Zara emphasized the need to spread educational awareness on the correct use of TikTok. According to Zara, the need of the hour is for parents and teachers to teach children how to use TikTok correctly.
At the program, SSP Rabindra Aryal, Chief of the Cyber Bureau of Nepal Police, said that criminal activities are increasing through social media. He said that it is necessary to raise awareness along with the implementation of the act and law. According to him, women and children in particular are victims of misuse of social media.
In the meantime, an agreement has been signed with TikTok and ChildSafeNet to start a public awareness program on the correct use of social media. Anil Raghubanshi, Chairman of ChildSafeNet, said that it has been agreed to provide training on the correct use of social media in 14 schools in the districts of Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, Kaski, Tanahun, Sunsari and Morang.
