Especially in the state of Maharashtra, this festival is celebrated on a grand scale for ten days, where an idol of Lord Ganesha is installed and worship is performed with great pomp and finally the idol is immersed.
This festival also brings a sense of unity and cooperation in the society. People collectively decorate the mandap and install the idol of Lord Ganesha, and usually, people from all communities participate in pujas, chanting, and various cultural events.

What to do on Ganesh Chaturthi
Many devotees fast on this day for Lord Ganesha, known by names like Ganesh, Vakratund, Lambodar, Vinayak, Ekdanta, and Gajadhar.
The fasting people eat only fruits or one Chakka and complete the fast by worshiping Lord Ganesha. On the day of Ganesha Chaturthi, people bring clay idols of Lord Ganesha and install them in their homes or mandaps, and the established idol is worshiped, then special worship is offered to the idol of Lord Ganesha by offering flowers, garlands, oil, incense sticks, incense, lamps, betel nuts, etc.
Since it is mentioned in the scriptures that there is a defect in the moon visible on this day, therefore, if the moon is not seen, it is believed that the defect can be removed by stealing something small, but it is definitely not good to harm or steal from someone.
