Chautchandra Festival Is Being Celebrated In Madhesh Today The Chauthchandra (Chourchan) festival is being celebrated today in the Terai-Madhesh districts. In the Chautchandra festival, which is known as the second biggest festival in Madhesh after Chhath, the devotees fast all day and worship Ganesha and the moon in the evening.
Devotees offer Kheer, Puri, fruits, etc. as Prasad to Ganesha and Moon in the evening. After sunset, there is a tradition of ritually performing puja in the courtyard by making an artistic Aripan out of rice flour covered with cow dung.
On this occasion curd, banana, sweets, and various dishes are offered in new clay pots. Also, there is a tradition of listening to the story of Ganesha and Moon. This festival is believed to have been started by the famous astrologer and the then king Hemangad Thakur, who established the belief that observing Chauthchandra would bring special results.
Dhanusha, Mahottari, Sirha, Sarlahi, Saptari, Bara, Parsa, and other districts of Madhesh celebrate this festival with special joy. In some states of India, there is also a tradition of celebrating Chautchandra festival. At the end of the festival, there is a tradition of accepting the offerings and distributing them to Ishtamitra.
