80 Million Compensation To Employees Who Were Fired After Not Responding To Elon Musk’s Email X has to pay compensation of five and a half million euros (more than eight million rupees) to an employee who was fired for not responding to Elon Musk’s email. Ireland’s Workplace Relations Commission ruled that former Twitter employee Gary Rooney was unfairly dismissed.
According to reports, Rooney has been working in Twitter’s Ireland branch since September 2013. He was fired in December 2022 after Elon Musk acquired Twitter.
Rooney, who worked as a senior executive in Twitter’s Ireland branch, was fired by X after rejecting Musk’s ultimatum. After this, the verdict came last Tuesday in favor of Rooney, who came to fight the case in search of justice.
The Commission argues that giving 24 hours to respond to emails is not enough time for any employee to make a proper decision. This is the largest compensation amount given by the commission so far.
Elon Musk acquired Twitter for $44 billion in October 2022, after which more than half of its employees were laid off.
