ADB And World Bank Provide Around 13.5 Billion Rupees In Support For Digital Nepal The World Bank and the Asian Development Bank have approved a total of US$90 million (about Rs. 13.5 billion) in financial assistance for the implementation of the ‘Digital Nepal Framework’ put forward by the Government of Nepal. This large foreign investment has come under the ‘Nepal Digital Transformation Project’.
The ADB has approved a concessional loan of US$40 million for this project on 10 March 2026. Earlier, in February, the World Bank had decided to provide assistance worth US$50 million. The government expects this joint investment of the two major donor agencies to take a new leap in Nepal’s digital infrastructure.
The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology will create an ‘Integrated Citizen Service Portal’ through this project. Once this portal is operational, it is claimed that the common citizen will be able to access all types of state services through a single mobile app or website without any hassle.
It is also said that a ‘Digital Locker’ system will be developed under the project. This system will digitally store citizens’ educational certificates, citizenship, passports and other government identity cards.
To address the growing cyber risks that accompany the expansion of technology, the government has planned to strengthen its own government data centre and mobilise modern technology and skilled manpower to make the National Cyber Security Centre more effective.
