Internet Service Provider Vianet Receives New License After 25-Year Term Expires. The Nepal Telecommunication Authority has issued a new license to the Internet service provider company Vianet. According to the authority, Vianet’s internet (including email) license has been reissued with effect from 2 Mangsir today.
According to the authority, the authority has issued a new license (Fi. Ja. 1-191) has been issued to Vianet after the 25-year license period expired. Vianet has paid a license fee of three hundred thousand rupees for the new license.
As a solution, the government amended the Telecommunications Regulations 2054 BS and opened the option for companies that had completed 25 years to obtain a new license.
However, after the government made it a condition that all old dues should be paid to get a new license, Worldlink paid a total of Rs 2.15 billion in royalties and RTDF on 30 Kartik 2081. Only then did Worldlink get a new license.
In Poush 2081, another internet service provider, Subisu, got a new license after paying Rs 313.8 million in dues. Vianet has also paid Rs 550 million in dues on 28 Magh 2081.
According to the NEA’s data, Vianet has a 9.91 per cent share in the internet market. Vianet is the fourth-largest internet service provider in the country. Vianet has 325,629 fibre internet customers.
