Although the first half ended in a goalless draw, three goals were scored in the second half.
Nico Williams scored a goal in the 47th minute of the game and gave Spain the lead. But in the 73rd minute, Cole Palmer equalized for England. At the appointed time, the game was moving towards a tie when Oyabajal scored a goal in the 86th minute to give Spain a 2-1 lead. Keeping that lead, Spain won the match and became the European champion for the fourth time.
England has stopped being the runner-up for the second time in a row. Earlier, in the final of Euro 2021, England lost to Italy in a penalty shootout at home.
Spain won all seven matches they played in Euro 2024. England kept a clean sheet by defeating Croatia 3-0 and Italy and Albania 1-0 in the group stage. In the last 16, Spain defeated Georgia, the new entrant of Euro 4-1, in the quarterfinals; they defeated the host Germany, France in the semi-finals, and England in the final with the same result of 2-1. Spain scored a total of 15 goals throughout the tournament and conceded four.
