The Vatsavitri Festival Is Being Celebrated In Mithilanchal Today Today is the Mother’s Day of Jyeshtha Krishnapaksha. Women (Mithilani) of Mithila are celebrating the Vatsavitri festival by praying for the long life and good health of their husbands with devotional worship of grooms and penpals. Vatsavitri festival is also known as ‘Vasarait Pavain’ in the local language.
In this festival, which is celebrated by gathering in places where there are banyan trees, there has been a lot of activity in the places where there are banyan trees since this morning. Women wearing new clothes celebrate this festival joyfully by singing group songs.
According to legend, in Satya Yuga, Sati Savitri got the boon of unwavering good fortune through her penance and sadhana on the first day of June, and Mithilani has been celebrating this festival with this wish.
The tradition of this festival is that Sati Savitri awakened her husband Satyavan, who had fallen and got the boon of good luck.
There is also a tradition of reciting and listening to the story of Savitri, from cleaning the Watbriksha premises to dressing up in new clothes.
Shail Karna, who is preparing for the festival in Bardibas-2 Varchautara of Mahottari, said that fasting is the wish for the long life of the husband.
In Mithila, this festival was celebrated only by women of Brahmin, Kayastha, and Sonar castes until a few decades ago, but now Mithilani of all castes have started celebrating it.
