According to the report of US-based technology company TRG Datacenters, on average, users are active on social media platforms from six to seven times a month. And they use it for an average of two hours and 24 minutes a day.
Although social media apps are an integral part of the daily lives of millions, the platform’s popularity has steadily declined. According to the report, the number of active users of the Metaco Threads app, which crossed the 100 million user mark within five days of its release, has decreased by 80 percent.
In 2023, about one million users from all over the world searched for how to delete their Instagram account every month. This means that 12,500 users out of one lakh have searched for how to delete an account.
According to Chris Hinkle, Chief Technical Officer of TRG Datacenters, Instagram is the most deleted app in 2023. This means that even though social media users have increased, they have started preferring new platforms.
How did the study of social networks?
Researchers at TRG Datacenters used nine different popular apps reported by Statica.com to study social media. These are the apps that are available to users in most parts of the world. They analyzed how many times the phrase ‘how to delete my account’ was searched every month for 12 months.
Deleting a few million accounts from a social media platform with two billion users worldwide is not a big problem. However, when a large number of users try to delete their accounts every month, the study concludes that they do not think the current social network is suitable.
On Snapchat, which was launched in 2011, 130,000 people are trying to delete their accounts every month. While the platform, which has become popular among the new generation, has around 75 million users.
