Last Monday Of Shrawan 2083 Today, the last Monday of the month of Shrawan, devotees are thronging Shiva temples across the country, including Pashupatinath.

Women who have been fasting and worshipping Shiva every Monday of the month of Shrawan are completing their fast today in a ritualistic manner. Although they are not allowed to fast and worship on other Mondays of the month of Shrawan, it is believed that fasting and worshiping on the last Monday will fulfill their wishes.

Since Monday of Shrawan is the favorite day of Lord Shiva, devotees perform fasts, worship, and donate on this day.

Devotees have also been flocking to Shiva temples including Pashupati in Kathmandu, Doleshwar in Bhaktapur, Kumbheshwar in Lalitpur, Halesi, also known as Mahadev of the East, Pindeshwar in Sunsari, Galeshwar in Myagdi, Kusheshwar in Kapilvastu, Gupteshwar in Parbat, Kapileshwar in Janakpur, Sireshwar and Kalaneshwar in Jaleshwar, and Dharpani in Dang since morning.

Coincidence of Somapradosh Vrat

Scholars say that this time the last Monday of Shrawan coincides with the Somapradosh Vrat. According to them, if Trayodashi Tithi falls on a Monday, it is called Somapradosh.

‘Pradosh’ is generally a special time before/after sunset, which is considered auspicious for Shiva worship.

It is believed that visiting a Shiva temple during Pradoshkal, i.e. around sunset, and lighting a lamp and worshipping it brings happiness, peace and prosperity. It is said that on this day, offering yellow food and offering it with milk, curd, ghee and betel leaves is auspicious.
