302 False Information And Hate Speech Identified: Action Process Moved Forward. The Election Commission has taken action against those spreading false and misleading information and hate speech.
Election Commission Joint Secretary and Spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai informed that 302 instances of false and misleading information and hate speech have been identified, and action has been taken against them.
The Election Information Communication and Coordination Centre has been established within the Election Commission to monitor individuals who spread false and misleading information and hate speech in violation of the election code of conduct. The Information Ethics Promotion Unit under this centre is operational.
Commission spokesperson Bhattarai said, “A total of 302 harmful pieces of information discovered by the unit have been sent to the concerned bodies for action in accordance with the Election Code of Conduct, 2082, the Electronic Transactions Act, 2063, and the Press Council Act, 2048.”
According to the commission, such information and expressions will be removed during the course of action.
The Commission has also stated that complaints can be filed in writing, verbally, and electronically with the Election Officer’s Office, Provincial and District Election Offices, and District Code of Conduct Monitoring Officers.
