Today Is International Day For The Abolition Of Slavery Today is the International Day for the Abolition of Slavery, observed in various countries around the world.
The aim of this day is to raise global awareness against modern forms of slavery, including human trafficking, forced labour, sexual exploitation, child labour, forced marriage, and the forced recruitment of children into armed conflict.
This day is celebrated every year to commemorate the day the United Nations passed a General Assembly resolution on the suppression of human trafficking and sexual exploitation on December 2, 1949.
According to the United Nations, 50 million people worldwide are still at risk of modern slavery, most of whom are women and children forced into labour.
The International Labour Organisation has emphasised the need for collaboration between governments, civil society, and communities to end slavery and modern exploitation, emphasising the rescue, rehabilitation, justice, and long-term protection of victims.
