Trump Said: Elon Musk Wants To Buy TikTok I’m Ready To Help US President Donald Trump has said he would support billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk if he wanted to buy TikTok. Speaking to reporters at a White House event on Tuesday, Trump said he would support Musk if he wanted to buy TikTok.
The law requiring TikTok to be sold from Chinese ownership due to national security concerns went into effect in the US on Sunday. Before the law was implemented, TikTok’s more than 170 million US users were unable to access the app for some time. The app has been open since the newly elected President Trump officially took office on January 20.
According to Bloomberg, Chinese officials have discussed selling TikTok’s U.S. operations to Musk. The company has denied any such plans. Trump signed an executive order on Monday, delaying the law’s implementation by 75 days.
“If he (Musk) wants to buy TikTok, I’m ready,” Trump told reporters. “I’ve met with the big owners of TikTok. I think someone should buy TikTok and give half of it to the United States.”
According to the company, its recommendation engine and user data are stored in the US on cloud servers operated by Oracle.
Musk has previously commented on the imbalance between the Chinese market and the US market. He said, “I have been against banning TikTok for a long time. Because it goes against freedom of expression.”
However, he said that allowing TikTok to operate in the US while China does not allow the American app to operate is unbalanced.
