Chinese Scientists Claim That There Is Evidence Of Water On Mars A Chinese rover has found evidence of water on Mars, also known as the Red Planet. Recently, according to a scientific report published in Nature.com, the Chinese rover Churon (Zhuron) found a residue with special properties.
This indicates that there was an ocean in the Utopia Planitia region of Mars a long time ago. This region is in the northern hemisphere of Mars. According to the paper written by the scientists, there are water-flowing holes and other shapes in that area.
According to them, other features related to water have also been observed in the Utopia Planitia region of Mars. However, scientists have mentioned that these various features that have been discovered do not 100% prove the existence of an ocean there before.
They say that these structures can be built even without water. Some people have questioned the study’s claims. China launched the Churon rover to the Utopia Planitia region of Mars on May 15, 2021, under the Tianmen One spacecraft mission.
It is one of the largest known impact craters in the solar system. Its area is spread over thousands of kilometres. And, its diameter is estimated to be about two thousand miles. Patterns of various sizes are visible on the surface of some parts of Utopia Planitia.
These patterns indicate that there were freeze-thaw cycles at one time. Scientists believe that this may be related to underground ice water. The idea that Mars was once covered by water has existed for many years.
However, no one has been able to collect enough evidence to prove it. The planet has lost a large part of its atmosphere over time due to its weak magnetic field. It is believed that the water is directly converted from snow to vapour because the thin atmosphere cannot keep liquid water stable on the surface.
Some analysts have suggested that a possible ocean on Mars may have formed due to a flood about 3.7 billion years ago. And they suspect that it froze and disappeared 3.4 billion years ago.
