For 53 Days Today The Earth Is Getting The Second Moon: Is It Not Going To Hit The Earth Somewhere A cosmic surprise is going to be received in the sky of the Earth today. According to scientists, Earth is getting a second moon. The gravitational force of the earth will pull an ‘asteroid’ i.e. an asteroid towards itself and it will remain as a mini-moon i.e. a small moon for a few days.
This guest of the earth can appear from 29 September i.e. today Sunday and will remain in our sight for a few months. Then it will leave the Earth’s gravitational field. This second moon is much smaller and less luminous.
Therefore, a professional telescope may be needed to see it. It is about 32 feet i.e. 10 meters long. Which is very small compared to the Earth’s moon. While the diameter of the moon is 3,474 km.
This guest moon was first seen by NASA‘s Asteroid Terrestrial Impact Last Alert System on August 7. According to a report published in Research Notes of the American Astronomical Society, scientists have studied its trajectory.
This small asteroid that comes close to the Earth will stay in the Earth’s orbit for a short period of 53 days. But it will not come to collide with the earth. After a few days of orbiting the Earth, it will return to the solar system.
Similarly, in the year 2017, an asteroid came into the Earth’s orbit. Along with that, scientists say that three mini-moons have come into the Earth’s orbit. As it is not visible to the naked eye, it is said to be technically only a mini-moon.
