The 116th Birth Anniversary Of Mahakavi Lakshmi Prasad Devkota Is Being Celebrated Today various programs are being organized and celebrated. In the year 1966, Mahakavi Devkota was born on the day of Kattik Krishna Aunsi i.e. Lakshmi Puja in Dillibazar, Kathmandu.
Devkota has published many epics, short poems, essays, stories, dramas, novels, songs, criticisms and short poems. His ‘Munamadan’ block poem, which started modern epic writing in Nepali literature, is the most-sold book published in the Nepali language so far. Humanism, love of nature and revolutionism are reflected in the works of Devkota, the promoter of the modernist-progressive trend in Nepali literature. A combination of Eastern and Western philosophies can be found in his creations.
He also contributed significantly to the global promotion of Nepali literature by translating Nepali works into foreign languages and representing Nepal at various conferences held abroad.
Devkota passed away on Bhadra 29, 2016. On the occasion of Mahakavi Devkota Jayanti, a week-long program has been held since last week.
