Apple Will Offer A Reward Of More Than 130 Million To Anyone Who Hacks Its AI Server The cyber security researcher who discovered the vulnerability in Apple’s private cloud computing (PCC) will get a reward of one million dollars (more than Rs. 13 crores). The company has announced that it will award a reward to the hacker who discovers a security flaw in the PCC system that supports requests coming to intelligence.
The company claims that most AI features run safely on Macs, iPhones or other Apple hardware. However, if AI has to do more complex work, the request will go to the PCC based on Apple Silicon and the new operating system through the server.
In this case, the security risk may be higher. Therefore, the company has requested cyber security researchers to identify security vulnerabilities in these systems.
Most AI apps from other companies also rely on servers to perform complex tasks. However, users are not fully informed about the security of such server-based work. Apple has been making big claims about its focus on user privacy for a long time.
It is designed so that its security and privacy guarantees can be enforced and security researchers can independently verify the veracity of these guarantees.
You can click here to view the security guide for PCCI technical details. Similarly, you can click here to access the virtual research environment and perform security analysis of PCC on Mac.
However, this requires a Mac with an Apple Silicon chipset, 16GB of RAM, and the latest Mac OS. Its source code is kept on GitHub.
Under this bug bounty, researchers who find vulnerabilities will get $50,000 (about Rs. 67 lakh) to $100,000 (about Rs. 13 crore). According to different categories of security vulnerabilities, the amount of the reward that the researcher will get is allocated.
The first Apple Intelligence feature is provided in the iOS 18.1 update on all recent iPhones. Other features of Apple Intelligence Genmoji and ChatGPT are available in the developer version of iOS 18.2.
