Former Professor GN Saibaba Passed Away GN Saibaba, a former professor of Delhi University, passed away on Saturday evening at NIMS Hospital in Hyderabad. He breathed his last at 8:36 p.m.
Last month he underwent surgery to remove his gall bladder, after which he was taken to the hospital due to complications from his failing heart. Doctors gave him CPR but could not save his life. Then the doctor of Nims announced that Sai Baba had died.
Earlier, GN Saibaba was arrested in 2014 under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA). He was accused of having links with the Maoist organization.
Within 24 hours, a special bench of Supreme Court Justice MR Shah and Justice Bela Trivedi overturned the High Court verdict.
The Supreme Court said Saibaba and the other accused were ‘guilty of a serious crime against the sovereignty and integrity of the nation’.
On March 5 this year, the Nagpur bench of the Bombay High Court once again acquitted him. “Downloading Communist or Naxalite literature from the Internet or being a supporter of any ideology comes under the UAPA offence,” the court said.
After this, the Maharashtra government again approached the Supreme Court against the decision of the Bombay High Court to release Saibaba.
