Susan The Former CEO Of YouTube Has Passed Away Susan Wojcicki, the former chief executive officer of YouTube and one of the earliest employees of Google, has died at the age of 56. Google CEO Sundar Pichai has informed us that Susan, who was suffering from lung cancer for 2 years, passed away.
In a post on the social media platform X, Pichai said that he was very saddened by the death of Susan, saying that she was at the center of Google’s history.
Susan, who was also discussed as the most important person of Google who had never been heard of, was present during the founding of Google in 1998. She rented out her garage in Menlo Park to Sergey Brin and Larry Page, founders of Google’s search engine company.
Susan, who was working at the chip maker company Intel then, was persuaded by Brin and Page to come to Google and became the 16th employee of Google.
She ran Google’s video streaming platform YouTube for 9 years as the chief executive officer. Last year only in 2023, she resigned from the position of CEO of YouTube saying that she would focus on her family, health, and personal interests.
Susan was among the few women to hold senior management roles in the global technology industry.
Speaking to the BBC in 2013, she said that the future will be digital and girls and teenagers should be encouraged to enter the technology sector.
Even during the Covid-19 pandemic, Susan’s tenure at the helm of YouTube remained challenging and controversial.
YouTube was widely criticized for spreading misinformation online. In 2022, many fact-checking organizations wrote to him, accusing YouTube of being the main character in spreading false and misleading information to the world.
