Telegram Will Provide A User’s IP Address And Phone Number If Requested By The Government Messaging app. Telegram is now going to provide users’ IP addresses and phone numbers to government agencies. Telegram will provide details of users involved in illegal activities if requested by the relevant regulatory body.
According to Bloomberg, the platform has moved forward with this initiative by changing its policy. Pavel Durov, the chief executive officer (CEO) of Telegram, said in a post on Monday that he has changed his policy to prevent his platform from being misused for criminal activities.
Durov took this step after being arrested in France and released on bail. He was arrested by the French police for investigation because he was involved in the dissemination of material related to child abuse.
Recently, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been used to regulate the content uploaded to it. Apart from that, Durov says that the team has been appointed to remove content that causes problems. He requested everyone to report illegal content seen on the platform.
Telegram is famous for its end-to-end encrypted chat (not accessible to third parties except for senders and receivers) and user privacy. Now, the decision to regulate the content and provide the details of the users to government agencies has raised the question of what will be the future of Telegram.
