Rishipanchami 2024 Message

Rishipanchami 2024 Message Rishi Panchami is an important festival of women in Hindu culture, which is celebrated every year on the fifth day of the Shukla Paksha of the month of Bhadra. It is a practice to strengthen the relationship with the sages and women remember the sages and observe this day, especially as a tribute to the sages to purify their five physical bodies by worshiping the seven sages including Arundhati. Today’s Panchami is called Rishi Panchami because it is Panchami for worshiping Saptarishi.

On this day, women wake up early in the morning and go to the banks of nearby rivers, streams, lakes, ponds, and ponds, brush their teeth with 365 Dativans, and bathe with cow dung, mud, and ashes. It is customary to take panchakarma (cow wheat, milk, curd, ghee, cow dung) after bathing. After that, wearing pure clothes, the women follow a special method to worship the Saptarishis. In this day’s worship, Saptarishi went to the temple, or women who did not have the opportunity to go to the temple, worship at the river bank or at home.

After setting up an idol or making a sage of Kush and worshiping it, at the feet of the sages including Arundhati, they offer kas, kush, Dubo, fruits, and prasad according to the instructions of the Guru Purohit. Arundhati is worshiped with 365 items such as Akshata, Barley, Sesame seeds, Flowers, Lamps, Paan, Betel nut, etc. After worshiping, there is a fasting method to eat unripe food such as grass, kaguno, crab, potato, yam, copper, etc.

Therefore, if there has been an unknowing mistake or unlimited activity by oneself, this Rishi Panchami is the day to pray for forgiveness and to cleanse the body from a religious point of view.

In our scriptures, there is a religious belief that a woman is purified by taking a bath on the first day of menstruation, Chandalini on the second day, Brahmaghatini, and Dhobini on the third day, and bathing on the fourth day.

Tritiye Rajaki prokta Chaturthi hani shuddhayati.

According to the mythological story, after Indra killed Vritra, the son of Tvashtarishika, he had to bear the punishment for the great sin of Brahmacharya. To get rid of that Brahmin, that sin was divided into four places, the first being in the first fire mixed with smoke, the second in the rainwater puddles or muddy water, the third in the mountain with grassy trees and the fourth in the menstruating woman.

To get rid of this fourth sin, there is a tradition of worshiping Saptarishis along with Arundhati and fasting, which has been going on since ancient times and even today, which is scriptural. On this day, it can be seen that there is a large presence of female devotees for worship in all Risheshwar temples across the country, including the Saptarishi temple located in Teku, Kathmandu.

Through this festival, it seems that we are trying to convey the importance of religious education and rituals by keeping our ancient traditions alive through our descendants and spreading them to the new generation.
