Preparing To Attach Driving License To National Identity Card Before Dashain Preparations have been made to link the driving license with the national identity card before the upcoming Dashain. A memorandum of understanding was signed between the Department of Transport Management and the National Identity Card and Registration Department on 30 July for this work.
Uddhav Prasad Rizal, Director General of the Transport Management Department, and Yuvraj Kattel, Director General of the National Identity Card and Registration Department signed the memorandum of understanding. According to this agreement, both departments will exchange data through API and attach the license to the national identity card.
It is mentioned in the memorandum of understanding that the national identity card should be used as a driving license. For this, it is said that the National Identity Card and Registration Department and the Transportation Management Department should develop, test, and operate a system to view and apply the details of the driver’s license using the National Identity Card or National Identity Number (NIN).
Similarly, if the driver shows a national identity card instead of a license, the QR code provided by the National Identity Card and Registration Department, or the identity card number, the checking officer should look at the details of the driver’s license and check the system.
According to Director General Rizal, the necessary software for this is ready. Now, if the traffic police use a mobile device to look at the QR code of the national identity card or enter the number on the device, the digital license will be displayed.
According to him, it has been decided to provide mobile devices for scanning QR codes to the traffic police keeping in mind the issue of data security. He said that since the government has not allocated a budget for this, how to move forward is being discussed.
According to him, if the software is organized and all the work is completed successfully, this system will be used before the Dashain festival.
