20 Km Deep Lake Found Under Mars Scientists have announced the fact that they have found a large reservoir under the surface of Mars. After analyzing data from NASA’s Mars InSight lander, scientists have brought out new facts about Mars.
This has added strength to the hypothesis that there are vast oceans beneath the surface of Mars. Scientists have already found evidence of frozen water and vapor in the atmosphere in the polar regions of this planet. This is the first time that liquid water has been found on the planet.
Scientists have published this study in the ‘Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences’. Where they have said that there is a large reservoir inside the surface of the planet based on data from the Mars InSight lander. The lander was operated on Mars from 2018 to 2022.
In the context of various scientific research, NASA installed a seismometer on the said lander. Which continuously recorded the earthquakes of the planet for four years. In this process, 1319 times vibration has been recorded. After analyzing those vibrations, scientists have come to the conclusion that there is water under the planet.
Based on the same method, scientists have found a reservoir with a depth of about 10 to 20 kilometers inside Mars. Various scientific studies have confirmed that Mars had rivers and lakes in ancient times. Now this new fact is expected to give further height to the study of the planet.
Michael Manga, a professor at the University of California involved in this research, said that this discovery will answer the question of where the ancient water of Mars went. He argued that like on Earth, water can be underground on Mars too.
