Alakarta System Is Being Planned To Fail: Cable TV Businessman The Federation of Nepal Cable Television Businesses is of the view that foreign-paid channels have been shut down because of the failure of the Alacarta fee system in Nepal.
By sending a letter to the Department of Information and Broadcasting on Sunday, the Federation responded that the Indian television networks have shut down the channel together to bring the Nepal government to its knees.
Indian channels such as Star, Sony, Zee, Colors, Discovery, etc. have been shut down in Nepal since Sharwan 16. Indian television networks say that they have stopped broadcasting their channels because the government has not given foreign exchange recommendations for nearly two years.
Since 25 Chaitra 2079, the government of Nepal has implemented the Alacarta fee system for television broadcasting. However, foreign-paid channel providers and broadcasters in Nepal have not implemented the system because of technical and practical problems in implementation. Therefore, the fees of foreign-paid channels have not been paid.
In addition, the federation has alleged that the foreign providers of foreign-paid channel providers have been illegally accessing Nepal through the Internet (OTT) and DTH from Nepali territory and Nepali airspace for years and have been illegally broadcasting in Nepal. Due to this, the Federation believes that billions of rupees are used to go abroad every year using illegal means.
It is mentioned in the letter that it is worrisome that foreign-paid channels are suddenly closed, which is against their rights and interests when the general consumers have already paid the fees in advance.
The federation has accused the regulatory body of watching the unconstitutional, illegal, and unprofessional actions of foreign paid channel providers to completely shut down the television broadcasting service accepted by the Nepal government through a letter.
