Biden Signed The Bill To Ban The Sale of TikTok To America US President Joe Biden has signed a bill to completely ban TikTok ownership without selling it. Along with this, if ByteDance, the parent company of Tiktok, takes a stand that it will not give its ownership stake to America, there is a possibility that the ban on Tiktok will be implemented in the next few days.
Earlier on April 20, the US House of Representatives passed a bill to ban TikTok. The Washington Post reported that President Biden signed and approved the same bill on Wednesday.
According to the Washington Post, this provision now requires Tiktok’s Maui company ByteDance to provide data in about nine months or sell the shares of the platform. Until then, if ByteDance does not care, the President can extend the deadline up to 90 days. After that, TikTok will be completely banned.
360 members of the US House of Representatives voted in favor of banning TikTok, while 58 members voted against it. In other words, most of the MPs supported the belief that Tiktok should sell shares or give data. A similar bill was passed by the House of Representatives last month, but after the bill stalled in the Senate, another bill was passed.
Michael Beckerman, Head of Public Policy of US-based Tiktok, said that if the passed bill becomes law, it will go to court.
Due to Tiktok’s relationship with China, the issue of banning Tiktok in America has been raised. The United States is pushing for a ban on TikTok due to concerns that China is collecting large amounts of data through American TikTok users.
“Enacting such a law is a violation of the rights of 170 million American users,” he said, “and we will continue to fight against it.” On the other hand, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of TikTok, Show Ji Chew, has posted a video saying that no matter how many challenges or threats come, he will not back down.
