What Kind of Technology is Israel’s Iron Dome Israel has been using Iron Dome technology to neutralize rockets fired by its enemies. This system was being used to protect the country from rocket attacks, especially from the military group Hamas.
The Iron Dome system was also protected from more than 200 rockets and drones launched by Iran on Sunday night. This has saved a potentially huge loss of human wealth. If Israel does not have this system, it is said that there could be a lot of loss of human resources. However, it is said that some of the rockets fell on the land of Israel.
What is the Iron Dome System?
The Iron Dome system, powered by a mobile missile defense battery, is Israel’s main defense system against missile and rocket attacks. When the Iron Dome radar unit detects an incoming rocket, it transmits its speed and projectile information to the battery’s control center.
After that, the computer in the control center calculates whether the rocket is falling in a populated area. If the rocket is heading towards a human settlement, a launcher fires a missile, which contains 20 interceptor missiles.
This system can be operated not only day and night but also in all types of weather. Under this system, there are various locations with special batteries throughout Israel. Three to four launchers are placed in all those places. One such launcher can fire 20 interceptor missiles. There are two types of systems: fixed and mobile.
How does it work?
The Iron Dome system was developed after the war between Israel and Hezbollah, a military group based in southern Lebanon, in 2006. Hezbollah used to fire thousands of rockets at Israel, causing terrible damage and killing dozens of civilians.
As a response to that, Israel has said that it has developed a new anti-missile defense system. The Israeli company Rafale Advanced Defense System and Israel Aerospace Industries have prepared the Iron Dome with American support.
This system was specially designed to deal with weapons such as rockets fired from the Gaza side. Which was used for the first time in 2011. At the time, it shot down missiles fired from the Gaza Strip, which has been under Hamas control since 2007. In 2019, the US also announced that it would purchase and test some Iron Dome batteries.
