Chinese Scientists Make Phone Calls And Messages Possible Without BTS Towers have achieved great success in satellite communication without the need for cell towers. They have developed the world’s first satellite capability to make mobile communication possible without the need for ground infrastructure.

This project started 16 years ago. In 2008, there was no adequate communication due to the great earthquake in Sichuan, China. This is why more than 80,000 people lost their lives due to a lack of timely rescue.

Then the Chinese government started a project called ‘Tiantong’. The objective of this project was to develop a globally accessible satellite communication system. After 16 years, China has made significant progress on the project.

‘Tiantong’ literally means ‘contact with heaven’. Under this, China first launched a satellite named ‘Tiantong-1’ on August 6, 2016. Since then, two more satellites have been successfully launched in 2020 and 2021. In addition, there is a plan to launch another satellite in 2024.

Based on this satellite network, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer Huawei released the world’s first phone with a satellite call facility last September. After that, other Chinese companies, such as Xiaomi, Honor, and Oppo, introduced smartphones based on this technology.

As this is a new technology, Chinese consumers started using it immediately. It is said that the number of people using smartphones based on these technologies is now in the millions.

When satellite signals collide with each other, they create an additional signal, which distorts the call. Chinese communication experts have solved this problem. As a result of this, there is now no problem with satellite network-based calls.

Its effectiveness was seen during the 6.2-magnitude earthquake in Gansu province on December 18. There was no interruption in communication due to the satellite network available at that time. Especially in such emergency situations, traditional communication networks do not work. Therefore, this technology from China is now viewed with special importance.
