False Advertisement on Facebook Offering Free Online Psychology Degree and Laptop It has been found that a misleading advertisement is being made on the social network Facebook, saying that a psychology degree will be offered for free at the university level. For some time now, there have been such false advertisements on Facebook by adding the names of various universities and institutions.
Such fake advertisements have been made especially by adding the names of the Ministry of Education, Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu University, and foreign universities.
In such advertisements, it is mentioned that some organizations will provide a free online course in psychology and give a free laptop and certificate to the students who study. A link is placed along with it. Which looks like spam and phishing links.
Similarly, the pattern of advertisements made by different page names also looks the same. All of them have bad spelling, bad punctuation, bad sentence structure, ugly graphics, and unreliable pages.
At a glance, one feels that the advertisement is misleading, fake, and false. However, we contacted the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, and Kathmandu School to confirm this. But the reply came from both the agencies that there is no such plan at present and they do not know anything about the advertisement.
It confirms that the ad is not true. It can be assumed that the scammer or hacker has created various fake pages and is doing paid advertising from them. The sad part is that many people have liked and shared the paid advertisement. Which is a very worrying aspect.
All those posts have a redirect link. Clicking on it will take you to a link like ‘psychology-degree4.store’ or ‘psychologydegree12.services’. This domain is untrustworthy as well as suspicious. In that domain, there are various options like master’s program, Ph.D. program, and clinical psychology.
When you click on it, you will see the list and website of various universities. At a glance, it looks like someone is doing this for affiliate marketing.
The more people are clicked on the link and taken to different sites, the more income they get. From this, it seems that they have done marketing by getting affiliate links from various universities.
In general, you should not click on the links provided in such questionable posts without safety. More caution should be exercised before providing personal information or making any financial transactions. If you have seen such suspicious posts, you can directly contact the relevant authorities.
