The Internet should not be shut down in Nepal : Says Communications Minister Sharma has said that there should be no internet shutdown in Nepal. Minister Sharma made this statement during a conversation with the team of the Technology Journalist Forum at the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology on Tuesday.
The ministry has been withholding bandwidth payments to internet service providers for a long time due to non-payment of royalty and rural telecommunication development fund dues.
Even now, they have sent a letter to the internet service provider in Nepal with a warning that they will not be able to provide internet bandwidth if they do not receive the payment.
For that, there is a system where the Telecommunication Authority recommends, and then after the Ministry recommends, the National Bank approves it,” Minister Sharma said.
According to Minister Sharma, the ministry will then write a letter to the authority, confirm it, and send it.
Earlier, after the situation of the internet shutdown in the run-up to the election, the ministry had provided the facility of currency exchange at the last moment.
Now they will pay the amount they owe; the rest is our legal issue, and we will make a commitment that we will obey what the law says.
But here they say that the authority has to pay, and they say that we have to pay—not that we have to pay, but that it is what the audit committee has instructed.
Minister Sharma informed us that discussions are being held on the basis of these various aspects so that the country will not incur losses and the internet will also be kept regular.

There are a lot of internet users that will increase in Nepal, but the people aren’t making use of the proper way to do so. Internet companies need to pay the government or pay for currency collaboration with other countries to follow up.
