Guru Purnima Being Celebrated 2026 Today is the full moon day of Ashadha, i.e. Guru Purnima. On this day, people show respect to their Gurus who recite Gayatri, Diksha, and Vedic mantras and provide education.
Vyas Jayanti, which has been celebrated since the Vedic period on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Ved Vyas, the author of the Vedic scripture Mahabharata, is considered as Guru Purnima.
It has been a tradition for disciples to show their respect by feeding them various sweet dishes in honor of their guru who taught them. It is customary to respect the guru like a mother or father.
In Sanskrit, ‘Gu’ means darkness and ‘Ru’ means light. Experts say that in this way, a person who dispels the darkness of ignorance with the light of knowledge is called a Guru, as mentioned in the books of Tantra and Dharmashastra.
