Trump’s Special Envoy Gore Is Coming To Kathmandu: May Meet With Balen. US President Donald Trump’s special envoy Sergio Gore is arriving in Kathmandu today. He will land in Kathmandu this evening, a Foreign Ministry source said.
Gore is the highest-ranking diplomat to visit Nepal since the formation of the Balen Shah-led government.
The 39-year-old is US President Trump‘s special envoy for South and Central Asia. He is also currently serving as the US ambassador to India. Considered a close ally of Trump, he has been given the responsibility of special envoy for South and Central Asia, along with the ambassador to India.
In this regard, Gore’s status is considered higher than that of US Assistant Secretary of State Sameer Paul Kapoor, who arrived in Kathmandu on 7 Baisakh.
Although Gore is said to have political meetings during his stay in Nepal, it is not yet certain whether he will meet Prime Minister Balen Shah.
Earlier, US Assistant Secretary of State Sameer Paul Kapoor, who visited Nepal, met with Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) President Ravi Lamichhane and senior government ministers. However, he did not get to meet Prime Minister Balen Shah formally.
Balen refused to meet Gore, but Kapoor, like Gore, will return after meeting with RSP leaders and senior ministers, according to sources.
In recent years, most foreign diplomats visiting Nepal have met with top political leaders, including the Prime Minister. However, this practice appears to be changing under the current government led by Balen Shah.
