Aftab Alam Released From Prison. Former Nepali Congress MP Mohammad Aftab Alam has been released from prison.
The Birgunj bench of the High Court acquitted Alam on Wednesday. He was released from prison after receiving a letter of acquittal from the Birgunj court.
Alam was convicted by the Rautahat District Court and sentenced to life imprisonment. The Birgunj bench overturned the district court’s verdict and acquitted Alam.
He was in Nakkhu Jail in Lalitpur.
He was convicted of murdering a person by burning him alive in a brick kiln in Rajpur, Rautahat, on the night before the Constituent Assembly elections on 27 Chaitra 2064.
Rautahat police arrested Alam on 19 Asoj 2076, 12 years after the incident.
Alam was accused of burning alive the injured, including Trilok Pratap Singh and Oshi Akhtar, in a brick kiln while making a bomb at the house of Alam’s uncle, Sheikh Indris.
