TikTok Went To Court To Avoid The US Ban ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, has taken refuge in the court to avoid the US ban. On Tuesday, ByteDance filed a case in the US Federal Court after the possibility of being banned in the US for not selling Tiktok.
On April 20, the US House of Representatives passed a bill to ban TikTok, and President Joe Biden signed it. According to the law, ByteDance has to hand over US data to TikTok by January 19, 2025, or sell its shares in the platform to avoid the ban. Bytedance has filed a lawsuit to block the same law.
ByteDance said the law, which seeks to ban the app used by 170 million Americans, interferes with free speech rights. In addition, it has said that it has no plans to sell the ownership of Tiktok and that it will not back down no matter how many challenges or threats come.
America’s crackdown on TikTok is a continuation of America’s crackdown on Chinese technology. The US has banned hundreds of companies, including Huawei, in its country.
In particular, America has been accusing China of monitoring it through TikTok. On the other hand, ByteDance has claimed that more than two billion dollars have been spent to protect the data of American users.
