India Opens Kailash Mansarovar Yatra From Nepali Territory Lipulekh In Coordination With China. India has opened the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra via the Lipulekh Pass in Nepal. The formal announcement of the trip was made in collaboration with the governments of India. Lipulekh is Nepalese territory.
The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, organised by the Indian government, will be conducted from June to August 2026. The formal announcement of the trip was made in collaboration with the governments of India.
A statement issued by the Indian Ministry of External Affairs yesterday said that there will be a total of 20 groups for the trip this year. Of these, 10 groups will travel through Uttarakhand via Lipulekh Pass, and another 10 will travel through Sikkim via Nathu La Pass. Each group will have 50 passengers.
The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, considered extremely important from a religious perspective, has become a centre of attraction for thousands of devotees every year.
Nepal is unaware that such a travel route passes through Nepalese territory. India and China have already agreed to advance trade through Lipulekh Pass. Nepal is also unaware of this agreement.
The Mansarovar Yatra, which had been closed since 2019 due to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, was reopened last year.
In December 2024, during a meeting in China between Foreign Minister Wang Yi and India’s National Security Advisor, it was agreed to resume the pilgrimage through this border.
