Anti-Gvernment Protests In Iran: One Person Killed Soroush Daneshmandi, 19, has died after being shot by security forces during ongoing nationwide anti-government protests in the city of Golpaygan, Iran.
According to IranWire, Daneshmandi, a barber by profession, was shot by government forces on the evening of January 9.
The deadly attack occurred around 9 p.m. as protesters were gathering in the city centre.
According to witnesses, security forces used deadly force to disperse the crowd. The incident confirms the government’s intensified crackdown as protests spread beyond major cities such as Tehran and Isfahan to smaller, more traditional urban centres.
He was buried on January 14 in the village of Tajreh, on the outskirts of Golpaygan.
According to human rights monitors, authorities pressured the family to bury the body in a remote area, fearing that holding the funeral in the city centre would spark another major protest.
