OpenAI Introduces ‘Age Prediction’ Feature In Preparation For Adult Content On ChatGPT Artificial intelligence company OpenAI has rolled out a new age prediction feature for Chatbot users around the world, a move seen as a move to allow adult content on the popular chatbot.
The new system will use artificial intelligence to determine whether an account belongs to a minor, rather than relying solely on the age claimed by the user. For this, the AI model will analyse user behaviour and account activity in detail. This will be based on signals such as when the account was opened, when the user is most active, and how they use it.
This will help keep teens away from violent scenes, sexual or romantic role-play, content that encourages self-harm, and harmful content related to unhealthy eating or body image. The company said that in cases where there is no clear information about age, the system will prioritise safe experiences.
Additionally, a ‘parental control’ feature has been provided for parents. Through which they can set the time for using ChatGPT and control the training process of the AI.
If an adult user is mistakenly placed in the under-18 group by the AI, they can regain full access by taking a ‘selfie’ of themselves through a secure identity verification service called Persona.
According to Fiji Simo, OpenAI’s head of applications, ChatGPT is expected to officially launch an adult mode by the first quarter of 2026. Earlier, the company’s CEO, Sam Altman, also hinted at providing mature content for users who verify their age.
ChatGPT currently has 800 million weekly active users. The company recently announced that it will start showing ads within the chatbot to select users in the US as part of an effort to increase its revenue.
