11 ByteDance Apps Banned In US Along With TikTok And Capcut According to the new law recently implemented in the US, 11 apps including TikTok, Capcut, and Marvel Snap have been closed. Apple has issued a statement informing that the apps developed by ByteDance have been removed from the App Store.
According to Apple, ByteDance apps will no longer be available for download or update in the US App Store. The administration of US President Joe Biden had given the responsibility of implementing this law to the Trump administration. However, this law was enacted this week after TikTok’s appeal to the Supreme Court failed.
Apple wrote on its official support page, “We are obligated to follow the laws where we operate. By the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act, apps developed by ByteDance Limited and its subsidiaries, including TikTok, Capcut, Lemon8, and others, will no longer be available for download or update in the App Store in the United States starting January 19, 2025.”
Users who have already downloaded these apps will be able to use them. However, new apps will not be able to be downloaded or reinstalled. Also, no in-app purchases or memberships will be available. However, users will be able to cancel their membership.
It is said that ByteDance apps already installed on the device will not be affected. However, the company has already taken down its platform before the official announcement in compliance with US law. That is, installed ByteDance apps will not work either.
Apple has also released a list of apps related to ByteDance. These include TikTok, TikTok Studio, TikTok Shop Seller Center, Capcut, Lemon Eight, Hypek, Lark-Team Collaboration, Lark-Rooms Display, Lark Rooms Controller, Gouth: AI Study Companion, and Marvel Snap.
TikTok had said it could file a legal challenge against companies like Apple and Google to protest this law. However, the White House has called TikTok’s response a “stunt.”
Apple has clarified in a statement that it will comply with this until the law changes. Google is also expected to take similar steps. However, Google, Apple, and TikTok have not responded further to international media on this issue.
