Apple Is Selling iPhones Cheaper In China As Huawei Begins To Capture The Market Apple has started selling iPhones with huge discounts as competition in the Chinese market increases. As part of a special offer for four days starting Saturday, the company is offering a discount of 500 Chinese yuan (about nine and a half thousand rupees) on the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max.
China is considered Apple’s largest and most important market. However, demand for Apple products has started to decline recently due to premium smartphones from Chinese company Huawei. Keeping in mind the increasing competition, Apple has introduced such an offer for the first time through its own retail channel.
According to CNN, Apple started offering seasonal deals in China last year. Previously, discounts were only available through third-party retailers.
According to a report by Canalys, Apple’s smartphone shipments in China fell by 6 per cent in the third quarter of 2024. Apple’s market share fell from 16 per cent to 14 per cent during the same period.
At the same time, Huawei has increased its market share by 24 per cent annually, increasing from 13 per cent to 16 per cent. Affected by the US ban, Huawei has been aggressively launching new devices since 2023 to strengthen its position.
Huawei has been producing new devices with cutting-edge chips despite the US ban. The company recently launched a new phone that can be folded three times.
As the influence of domestic brands, including Huawei, is growing in the Chinese market, Apple seems to be trying to strengthen its position in the market by bringing attractive offers on its premium phones.
