Newar Community Celebrating Yomari Purnima And Japu Diwas Reef The Newar community is celebrating the Yomari Purnima festival and Japu Diwas with joy today. The Raithane Newar community of Kathmandu takes out rallies on the occasion of festivals and days.
Yomri Purnima is also known as ‘Yomri Punhi,’ which is celebrated on the day of Margashirsh Shukla Purnima. Celebrated as a big festival of the Newar community, this festival is considered a delicious food festival.
Yomari is a dish. Yomari is made from rice flour made from new paddy, knife, and sesame seeds.
Yomri is made with khuwa made from milk and dallo with knife and sesame seeds.
The Newar community celebrates Yomri Purnima by worshiping in the bhakari or kothi where paddy is kept. There is also a tradition in the Newar community of sending gifts in the form of yomari sagun filled with sesame seeds and knives from the mother-in-law to their house during the pregnancy of a female child, wishing for the full health of the child in the womb.
Grain Purnima is also being celebrated.
The Dhanya Purnima festival is also being celebrated by ritually worshiping and donating rice today. After bringing in the paddy in November, there is a tradition of worshiping the deities of paddy, Ganesha, Kooldevata, Gaidu deity, Goth deity, Maharudra, Mahalakshmi, and other deities after bringing in the newly brought paddy and making rice by kneading it into flour and making sale, Babar, Puri Malpua, and offering it.
On this occasion, fairs are held at places like Dhaneshwar in Kavrepalanchok, Anantalingeshwar in Bhaktapur, Champadevi in Kathmandu, Shikharbensi in Nuwakot, and Dupcheshwar.
