Starlink Internet Has Reached Bhutan: How Much Is The Fee Elon Musk’s satellite internet service Starlink is set to launch in neighbouring Bhutan. The Bhutan Infocomm and Media Authority (BICMA) recently granted Starlink a license as an Internet Service Provider (ISP).
Starlink has been providing internet services, especially in remote and inaccessible places. With its entry into Bhutan, Starlink is expected to provide internet services at a cheaper price than current internet service providers.
According to BICMA, Starlink offers different plans for home, business and high-demand users. Accordingly, the monthly fee for internet with 110 Mbps download speed for households (residential) will be 4,200 Bhutanese ngultrums (about seven thousand rupees).
Similarly, the monthly fee for residential light will be 3,000 ngultrums (about five thousand rupees), while the internet service with 5 to 220 Mbps speed for businesses, government and institutions will cost 4,200 to 4,00,000 ngultrums (seven thousand to 64 thousand rupees).
However, these plans have some data limits and Starlink cannot be used directly for mobile network services.
Currently, Bhutan Telecom and TashiCell are offering 8 Mbps for 4,000 nagultrums per month and 100 Mbps for 50,000 nagultrums per month. Although these companies’ plans are relatively cheap, Starlink is expected to be useful in remote areas as it can provide high-speed service.
However, users interested in using Musk’s internet service will have to buy a Starlink kit. The cheapest kit is said to cost 17,000 nagultrums (27,000 rupees).
