The airport is going to be closed for 10 hours a day for five months from today, due to the need to expand the runway, taxi way, parking way, etc.
According to the airport office, the airport will be closed from 23 Kartik to 18 Chaitra from 10 pm to 8 am. Currently, Kathmandu Airport is open from 6 a.m. to 2 a.m.
Pradeep Adhikari, director general of the Nepal Civil Aviation Authority, informed us that the work cannot be done in the summer, as it rains at that time, and now the work of upgrading the airport has been started since Kartik.
According to the authority, three builders will work on demolishing, rebuilding, connecting with the runway, upgrading, and connecting with the new apron of the four taxiways connected to the north-south side of the runway. According to the master plan of the airport, three different foreign construction companies are currently working for the upgrade at a cost of 15 billion rupees.
As the Kathmandu airport is closed at night, the airline companies have also revised their scheduled flight schedules.
It is believed that after the upgrade, there will be many facilities in the area and traffic on the ship.
