According to the American media, from 2017 to 2019, Hayotian Sun and Pengfai Shu were involved in a plan to cheat Apple and get a new iPhone instead of a fake iPhone.
The method of fraud was very complicated. They would send fake for repair and claim warranty using fake serial numbers. Apple used to send them a new iPhone as per the warranty. In this way, it has been found that they fraudulently took more than 6 thousand new iPhones.
They used to send iPhones through post using different fake names while committing fraud. However, Apple tracked the serial numbers and found the basis for the police to find the culprit. After an investigation, they were found guilty of fraud by the US Department of Justice.
Sun was sentenced to 57 months in prison and must pay more than $1 million in restitution. Similarly, Shu was sentenced to 54 months in prison and ordered to pay $400,000 in restitution.
