Elon Musk Acquitted In Tesla Shareholder’s Lawsuit Over Safety Of Autopilot Mode World billionaire and Tesla founder Elon Musk has won another case related to Tesla’s Autopilot mode. The court ruled in Musk’s favour in the lawsuit filed by the company’s shareholders regarding the safety and effectiveness of Tesla’s Autopilot mode.
A lawsuit was filed accusing Musk of exaggerating the ability and effectiveness of driver-assist technology to increase Tesla’s share price. But the judge of the Northern District of California acquitted Musk after the writ petitioner could not prove that he was negligent in the autopilot and full self-driving technology.
The court rejected the accusation that Musk cheated about the safety and effectiveness of the autopilot mode, explaining it as ‘corporate puffery’, i.e., a marketing statement rather than a concrete promise.
Although the court acquitted Musk, the effectiveness and safety of the autopilot mode depend on various aspects such as the company’s current work, future plans and customer expectations. Which leaves open the way for the shareholders to modify the allegations and file a lawsuit again
Musk has already been acquitted in two other cases related to the safety and effectiveness of Tesla’s Autopilot mode, while the United States Federal Investigation Agency and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration are investigating accidents that occurred when Autopilot was on.
