4.1 Million SMS Messages Were Sent In Two Days Regarding The Flood The Department of Water and Meteorology sent mobile SMS with flood information to 4.1 million citizens in two days last Friday and Saturday. According to Vinod Parajuli, flood expert of the department, 21 lakh 72 thousand and 19 lakh 21 thousand SMS were sent from Ncell and Nepal Telecom respectively.
The department has informed that a memorandum of understanding has been signed with Telecom and Ncell to reduce the possible damage caused by the disaster. The department sends about 9 million SMS every year.
Also, arrangements have been made for toll-free number 1155 for flood and rain-related information and 1149 for rescue.
The department has been providing advance notices to people living in flood-prone areas in collaboration with telecommunication service providers for 8 years. According to the department, such collaboration has been done to provide timely information on disasters such as floods, sudden floods, rain, lightning, windstorms, storms, landslides, avalanches, snowstorms, cold waves, fires, air pollution, tornadoes, etc.
