Manaslu Village Packed With Climbers According to the data of the tourism department, the highest number of climbers in Nepal climbed the 8,163-meter Manaslu mountain in this season. Climbers, Sherpas, guides, porters, cooks, locals, and foreigners are now living in Manaslu Village by pitching colorful tents at the base camp.
Samagaon in the lap of Manaslu is full of trekking tourists while Manaslu Village at the base camp is packed with climbers. Local Veer Bahadur Lama says that there is a lot of activity in Samagaon and base camp due to climbers and tourists. According to him, there is more activity in the base camp than in Samagaon. He informed me that with the start of the climbing season, the villagers also reached the base camp with the climbers to manage the heavy loads.
“Now there are more people in the base camp than in the village,” he said, “At least 300 people are up (at the base camp) every day by climbers, guides, porters.”. “With the start of the climbing season, the locals are also making good income by becoming guides and porters”, he said, “Tourism is the main source of income in the Himalayan region, so it is important to manage it properly.”
The highest number of 404 climbers took permission to climb Manaslu in 2079. In 2080, 301 people from 26 groups took permission, and this year, 308 people took permission, according to the statistics of the tourism department.
Tents were pitched and camped at Manaslu Basecamp from September 10-12. The locals of Samagaon say that the camp will be removed in the next 9-10 days. Although the season for mountain climbing is coming to an end this year, the trekking season will continue till November. Hoteliers of Samagaon say that until then, the village will remain full of tourists.
